Spring Training

Steiner Sports Press Release
March, 2007

Baseball's Cathedral. A Sports Utopia. Heaven on Earth. These phrases are often thrown around when referring to the ballpark resting at East 161st Street in the Bronx. When it comes to evaluating sports venues, The House That Ruth Built is usually among the elite. Now imagine an intimate ten-thousand seat version of Yankee Stadium, perfectly surrounded by lazy palm trees swaying in 70 degree weather in the middle of March! Welcome to Legends Field in Tampa, Florida - talk about Heaven on Earth!

During a three-day pilgrimage down south, Yankees-Steiner Collectibles set up shop behind home plate at Legends Field, bringing the excitement of our game used collectibles product line to a new audience. The fans couldn't get enough. Items sold included game used pinstripe 2007 Spring Training jerseys worn by manager Joe Torre and staff veteran Mike Mussina, a 2006 game used Spring Training jersey signed by The Great Mariano Rivera, game used Tino Martinez and Jorge Posada Bats, and a 2007 Yankees team signed baseball - all via silent auction. On the field, the Yankees split home games with Tampa and Cleveland, defeating the Rays 5-1 on Friday, March 9th and losing to the Tribe on Sunday, March 11th 4-3. In between home games, they traveled up to Bradenton and beat Pittsburgh 5-3.

One major similarity between the atmosphere in Tampa and the Bronx is obvious upon first step into the building - there is a major buzz around this 2007 team. The expectations are very high and the fans down there sense it. This was very evident by the overwhelming response received with regard to anything game used from the upcoming 2007 season. Fans were very interested to learn how they can own a piece of the action, starting with available game used collectibles from Legends Field.

Following Spring Training, Yankees-Steiner Collectibles will have all game used jerseys (home, road, and first game pinstripe), game used caps, locker room chairs, and nameplates available for purchase. Fans have noticed a small difference in the styles of uniforms and hats for 2007 - a change that has only added to the hype surrounding the much sought after pieces. Some pieces of note still available for purchase include: Derek Jeter's game used spring cap, blue spring training jerseys worn by Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, Andy Pettitte, Robinson Cano, and Melky Cabrera to name a few, and nameplates from above the lockers of Chien-Ming Wang, Hideki Matsui, Jason Giambi, Johnny Damon, and Jorge Posada. In addition, fans can pick up game used items from some up-and-coming Bombers like Jose Tabata, Humberto Sanchez, Jeff Karstens and Phil Hughes.
