Iconic Façade Comes Down From Old Yankee Stadium as Part of Demolition

Even Babe Ruth would have trouble recognizing the old Yankee Stadium now.

The beloved ballpark's iconic facade - the white scalloped frieze that ran above the scoreboard and billboards - is being pulled down as demolition kicks into high gear.

"It's an end of an era," Yankees fan Maria Abbamont, 44, said Thursday as she watched some of the panels be removed Thursday.

Dabbing tears from her eyes, the Westchester County mom gazed at construction workers sawing off giant concrete slabs high above the old outfield wall.
