Watching the Yankees play the Orioles in the playoffs will always remind me of the magical season of 1996, when the Bombers beat Baltimore en route to winning their first World Series since 1978. Of course, that was also Derek Jeter’s rookie year. I can’t believe the Yanks have had the captain at short for 16 years; it seems like just yesterday that, as a rookie, Derek hit that ball into Jeffrey Maier’s glove, to help beat the O’s the first time.
